Report Week 10

REPORT FROM MATCHES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 3rd JULY

Despite Barry Townsend clanging off fifteen dolls (6-4-5) and Den Sellar fourteen (4-6-4) Premier leaders The Cricketers ‘B’ lost at home to Section One side Red Lion ‘B’ Eynsham 2-1. In a low scoring game Cricketers won the opening leg 26-22 but lost the next two 25-23, 24-22. Mark Revill top scored for The Lion with ten dolls (3-3-4).
Kevin Giles (6-5-4) and Neil Lyon (5-5-5) were in fine form as they both hit fifteen dolls for The Three Pigeons as they romped home 3-0 at The Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham. The Pigeons won the first leg 33-28 but only set 24 in the next leg. Red Lion replied well hitting seventeen with their first five players leaving only eight needed with their remaining three players. However they failed miserably, mustering only four dolls between them to give The Pigeons a 2-0 lead. The final leg went to The Pigeons 31-20.
Section One leaders Gladiators ‘A’ lost at home to Vikings Sports ‘C’ 2-1. With the first two legs shared 18-25, 24-21 The Gladiators set the deciding leg with 25. After a steady reply Vikings anchor man Robin Charlton was left needing five to win, which he hit with the winning doll coming from his final stick. The Glad’s Kevin Neal bagged himself a six in his eleven doll haul.

Section Two unbeaten leaders Rose Hill ‘A’ were given a scare in their clash against bottom team Cowley Workers who are still seeking their first win. The Workers won the first leg 21-18 and only just lost the next leg by the odd doll 17-18. Rose Hill secured victory in the final leg 19-15.
It was not unlucky thirteen for The Six Bells ‘A’ Quarry James Bennett as he whipped off a bakers dozen (5-4-4) and put a dent in The Black Prince ‘A’ title ambitions by beating them 2-1. Black Prince started of well winning the opening leg 21-20 but lost the second 23-20. The final and deciding leg was tied 17-17 with the Six Bells winning it on three sticks.

In Section 3 Adrian Lewis threw well for his thirteen dolls (5-5-3) to help The Red Lion ‘B’ Yarnton remain only the third team in the league to stay unbeaten as they beat Kennington Club 3-0 in the leg scores of 17-15, 26-18, 25-18.
Second placed Chequers ‘C’ fell further behind after they crashed at home 3-0 to The Six Bells ‘A’ Kidlington. Alan Wood top scored for the Bells with eleven dolls 3-4-4 as they won all three legs 20-15, 18-14, 22-21.

Barry Gilding was in sparkling form as he hit fourteen dolls including a maximum six (4-6-4) for The New Club in Section 4 but it was to no avail as they lost at Garsington Sports Club ‘B’ 2-1. The Sportsmen won the first leg comfortably 24-18 but The New Club came back well to level in the second leg 20-17. The final and deciding leg went to Garsington 20-17. Stephen Wyatt was top dog for Garsington with a dozen dolls (4-3-5).

In Section 6 The George ‘A’ Monty Morgan was back to his best as he hit fourteen dolls (5-5-4) to lead his team to a 3-0 home win over The Chequers ‘B’. The result was never in doubt after the first leg as they won all three 19-16, 19-13, 20-14.
Leaders Donnington Club ‘C’ scrapped home against Kidlington Sports Club 2-1. They lost the first leg 14-17 and then had to rely on three sticks in the next leg after it was tied 14-14. The final leg going to the leaders 14-11.

Only one point separate the top five in Section 8 and the two of the joint leaders The Red Lion ‘A’ Yarnton and The Bullnose Morris ‘B’ clashed, and what a close encounter it was. The first two legs were tied 13-13 & 12-12 with The Lion winning them both on three sticks. Bullnose grabbed a point in the final leg 13-11.
Northway Club ‘B’ also join them at the top after they beat Donnington Arms 2-1 in the leg scores of 12-5, 16-13, 9-11.
Rose Hill Club ‘B’ scored more dolls then their hosts Six Bells ‘B’ Kidlington (52-50) but still ended up losing 2-1. The game was over after The Bells won the first two legs 17-15, 18-16 however Rose Hill came back well in the final leg to win it 21-15. Robin Cooper top scored for Rose Hill with eleven dolls 3-3-5.

In Section 9 The Blackbirds Neville Williams claimed the first player to hit double figures this season for them with ten dolls (4-3-3) in their 3-0 win over Red Lion ‘A’ Cassington. They won all three legs 18-12, 14-11, 15-10.
Leaders North Oxford Con Club ‘B’ has a scare against basement boys Crown ‘B’. In the opening two legs they only just won them by the odd doll 11-10, 12-11 but could not carry the luck into the final leg as Crown claimed that by the odd doll 15-14.

In Section 10 The Corner House just beat Headington Con Club ‘B’ 2-1. After wining the first leg 11-9 The Con Club set thirteen in the next which looked to be enough to win the leg. However The Corner House anchor man Neil Butler had other ideas as he clanged off five dolls to tie the leg which they went on to win on three sticks. They then wrapped up victory in the final leg 17-13. John Goodenough threw well for Headington Con with ten dolls (4-4-2).
