Week 14 August 6th
Chris Webb was in sensational form as he clanged off two sixes in his 15 dolls haul (3-6-6) for The Masons Arms ‘A’ in their home clash against The Black Horse ‘A’, however it was all in vain as they lost 2-1. Masons set all three legs and in the opening leg they set 22 Black Horse in reply struggled and were in trouble when they only had 7 on the board at the halfway stage. A maximum six from Jason Fox put them back on track to leave anchorman Steve Walton to whip off the two dolls needed to win the leg by the odd doll with 23. A set of 18 was never going to trouble the Black Horse and they galloped past that with 23 to go two up. A set of 25 by the Masons in the final leg saw them take the leg when the Horse could only reply with 23 after another bad start cost them dear. Steve Ward was in peak form for The Black Horse with 14 dolls (5-4-5).
Dan Reading led the way for The Swan when he clanged off 15 dolls (5-5-5) in their 3-0 home win against The Ampleforth Arms ‘A however the scoreline does not show the true picture on how the game panned out. The Amp set the opening leg with 22, which was not quite enough as Swan squeezed by with 23. Second leg Swan set with 24 which looked like it would be enough when The Amp needed 10 from their last two players to win the leg. Dave Green whipped off 4 dolls to leave anchorman Dave Simms needing all six, and he nearly puled it off falling one short with 5 to send it to three sticks which The Swan won. Swan wrapped up the maximum win in the final leg 23-18. Mark Hewitson was top dog for The Swan with a baker’s dozen (4-5-4).
The New Club open a two-point lead in the Premier after they had a fairly comfortable night at home to Yarnton British Legion winning all three legs 24-15, 22-20, 25-23. Dave Behan hit a six in his dozen dolls for the Legion, while James Morrison hit a baker’s dozen (5-4-4) for The New Club.
It was very close between Littlemore British Legion ‘A’ and The White House where only two dolls separated them all night. The opening leg was tied 26-26, The Legion winning it on three sticks. White House set the second leg with 24 and Legion were on course to surpass that, however a mini collapse proved to be costly, and they fell one short with 23 to allow The White House to level the game. Legion set the final and deciding leg with 23, however it could have been a lot more as that included a couple of ones and a blob. A slow start by The White House in return left anchorman Mick Phipps needing three to win and he did not disappoint whipping of the three dolls to give the White House the leg and game. Ian McAteer top scored for The White House with 13 dolls (4-4-5).
Garsington Sports should have claimed their first win of the season against Littlemore British Legion ‘C’. With the game nicely poised at a leg each, Legion set the final leg with 23. A good start by Garsington saw them have 18 on the board with three to go, however a dramatic collapse at the end with their last three players only hitting 4 between them left them one short with 22 to give the Legion and unlikely leg win and with it the game.
SECTION 2
Black Horse ‘B’ top Section 2 by one point following their sixth straight win on the bounce against basement boys The Tandem 3-0. It wasn’t a vintage performance by The Black Horse, no one hit double figures, in fact they equalled their lowest score of the season, but it was still enough to see them win all three legs 14-11, 20-14, 16-8.
Six Bells ‘C’ who led for most of the season drop to second spot, a point behind after they came away from The Blackbird with a 2-1 win in the leg scores of 20-14, 15-16, 20-14.
The game between WADs Bar and Duke Of Monmouth was a long, drawn-out affair as the first two legs had to be decided on three legs. WADs set the opening leg with 12 and with The Dukes anchorman Ian Walters knocking off three dolls needed to tie the leg, WADs won the three-stick shootout 9-6. The second leg was tied 21-21 and once again WADs won the three sticker 9-8, they then went on to complete the whitewash in the final leg 17-14. Richard Wyness was in fine form for Wads with 11 dolls (2-5-4).
Donnington Club ‘B’ title ambitions took a nosedive when they lost away at Rose Hill Club 2-1. It started of well for Donnington when they set and won the opening leg 16-10. A set of 19 by Rose Hill in the second leg was enough as Donnington could only hit 10 in reply. Donnington set the final leg with a low 12 which proved to be no problem for Rose Hill as they hit 16 in reply to win the leg and game.
Playing with a player short cost Cowley Workers in their home game against Queens Head ‘A’ who set the first leg with 19. Workers left anchorman Eamon Hanlon needing a maximum six to tie the leg despite a good effort he fell one short with 5. Queens won the second leg 16-9. Workers redeemed themselves in the final leg with a deserved point 14-13.

Cricketers Arms title aspirations took another hit when they crashed at home to Vikings Sports ‘B’ 2-1. Damage was done in the first two legs with Vikings setting and winning them both 15-12, 12-7. Cricketers came back well in the final leg 17-13 for an important point.
SECTION 4
Section 4 joint leaders Ampleforth Arms ‘B’ unbeaten record remains intact when they defeated visitors Kidlington Football club 2-1. Setting all three legs The Amp won the first 17-12 but lost the next 18-13. A score of 15 in the final leg made sure they stayed unbeaten when the Football club could only hit 8 in return.
Six Bells ‘B’ also joint leaders had a comfortable night at home to Vikings sports ‘C’ winning all three legs 16-12, 11-7, 15-7 to keep the pressure on The Amp.
