Week 18 Report

The White House successfully retained the Premier Section title when they beat Garsington Sports 3-0. Knowing that maximum points would be enough they easily won all three legs 25-20, 30-24, 32-19. In the third leg they were on course to beat the record leg score of 41 when they hit 21 with their first four players but dropped off towards the end to finish with 32. Roger Goodall was in sensational form again clanging off 16 dolls (4-6-6) with teammate Rob Bradford hitting 14 dolls (3-6-5).
Gladiators A knowing that they needed maximum points to have any hope of the title started off well at home to The George A, setting and winning the first leg 31-27, however that was to be their only success as The George hitting their best scores of the season won the next two legs 28-26, 27-24. Top doll scorer Kevin Baker finished off the season with his seventh six of the season in his 14-doll haul (5-6-3), Mark Bayliss for the George was in top form with 14 dolls (4-6-4).
Section One champions Red Lion B Cassington lost at Rose Hill Club B 2-1. Section one top doll scorer Mark Poulter smashed off 15 dolls (6-5-4) to break the 200 mark with 202 dolls but it was all in vain as they won the first leg 26-22 but lost the next two 28-22, 21-19. Graham Hambridge was top dog for Rose Hill with a baker’s dozen (3-6-4).
New Club finished at the foot of the table but ended the season with a home win against North Leigh FC 2-1 in the leg scores of 17-22, 28-27, 25-20.
The Swan A good form continued as they won their sixth game on the bounce at Red Lion A Kidlington 2-1. Lion won the opening leg 22-15 with The Swan levelling in the next leg 19-18. They then completed the turn around in the final leg 25-18.

SECTION 2
There was a remarkable finish for the title race in Section 2. With Chequers B and Red Lion B Kidlington going into the last games level on points The Chequers crashed dramatically 3-0 to The Queens Head 3-0.
The opening leg was tied 18-18 with Queens Head winning it on three sticks. It got even worse for The Chequers when they lost the next two legs 22-19, 19-18 which meant that the Red Lion only needed one point for the title.
Lion were at Donnington Club A and secured the title in the first leg on three sticks after it was tied 21-21. They then went on to win the next two legs 25-16, 20-14, with Steve Ward top scoring with 13 dolls (4-4-5).
The Blackbird won their second away game of the season when they defeated Seacourt Bridge who ends propping up the table. Blackbird won the first leg on three sticks after it was tied 13-13. They then went on to complete the whitewash in the next two legs 17-11, 14-10.
Gladiators B finished the season off on a high when they came away from The Masons A with a close fought 2-1 win. They won the first leg 15-12, lost the next 17-15 then won the decider 16-14. Ben Carter top scored for The Glad’s with 10 dolls (4-3-3).

SECTION 3
In Section 3 Donnington D took maximum points against their B team. Very little separated the teams in the first two legs with the D team winning them both by the odd doll 15-14, 13-12 and then 15-11 in the final leg.
Kidlington FC ‘B’ took second spot despite losing at home to Rose Hill Club ‘B’. With the game nicely poised at one apiece Rose Hill won the final leg 17-10.

SECTION 4
In Section 4 only one doll separated Cowley Workers & Duke Of Monmouth. First leg went to the workers 12-10, Duke levelling in the next leg 17-13. A set of 11 by the Duke in the final leg was not enough as The Workers sailed past that with 14. Eamon Hanlon top scored for The Workers with a dozen dolls (5-5-2).
Champions Masons B finished off the season on a high when they came away from The George ‘B’ with maximum points winning all three legs 17-14, 17-7, 15-10.
Cricketers Arms Cowley who led the table for 13 weeks finished with a win at Littlemore Rugby club. They sneaked the opening leg by the smallest of margins 13-12 with The Rugby men hitting straight back in the next leg 11-9. A set of 15 by the Cricketers was more than enough to give them the leg and secure the win.
The Swan C has a comfortable final night winning all three legs against visitors Northway Club ‘B’ 13-8, 15-8, 12-7.

SECTION 5
Section 5 champions made it though the season unbeaten when they beat Red Lion A Cassington 3-0. Joad Vaz hit his best score of the season with 10 dolls (2-4-4) as they won all three legs 14-7, 18-8, 15-11.
Headington Con Club pushed the champions all the way and finishes up in second spot despite losing at The Catherine Wheel 2-1 who hit their best scores of the season. The Wheel won the first two legs 17-13, 12-11 but could not quite take maximum points when they lost the final leg 12-11.
Democrats club went though the season not tasting victory and only won two legs however they turned up every week in great spirit and was an asset to the league. Their latest defeat was away at White Hart Wolvercote who were in a similar situation last season, losing all three legs 8-1, 13-1, 15-5.
