Singles & Pairs Play offs.

The Singles and pairs playoffs were held at Garsington Sports Club on a hot night, so no excuses for bad throwing!!!
In the quarter finals of the singles the first game was between Kevin Baker (Gladiators A) and Phil Austin (White House). Baker set in the opening leg with a respectable 4, in reply Austin smashed off five to give him and early lead. Austin then decided to set the next leg however struggled and could only set with one. Baker whipped off the two needed with his first two sticks. Final leg and Austin won the toss and decided to set and hit 4. Baker responded well and hit four out of his first five sticks and then whipped off the winning doll with his final stick.
Next up was Mick Phipps (White House) against Billy Trinder (George ‘A’) and it was ‘after the lord mayors parade’ when Phipps could only set 1 in the opening leg, Trinder going pass that with ease. Trinder then set 4 in the next leg which was enough to see him through.
Steve McAteer (White House) was drawn against Scott Thompson (Gladiators ‘A’) with McAteer setting 5 in the opening leg to give him an early lead. Thompson set 4 in the next leg with McAteer matching that with his final stick, then won the three sticks shoot out 2-1.
Final Quarter-Final was against Paul Sawyer (Bletchington Sports) and Ady Shepherd (New Club). Shepherd set and won the first leg 3-1. Sawyer levelled in the next leg 4-3.
Final and deciding leg Shepherd set 4 which Sawyer matched. They both hit 1 apiece in the three sticks and then Shepherd whipped off the doll in the one sticker to give him victory when Sawyer missed with his.
To the semi-finals and Baker was drawn against McAteer and breezed past him and into the final setting and winning the first leg with a set of 5. A set of 1 by MacAteer in the next leg was never going to be enough as Baker hit the two dolls needed with his first two sticks.
The second semi-final was a much closer affair. Shepherd set 3 in the first leg which Trinder matched. Shepherd set 1 in the three sticks with Trinder hitting 2 to take and early lead. A set of 3 in the second leg was enough to see Trinder through when Shepherd could only hit 2 in reply.
The final will be between two players who have been in the final before but have never won it, so a new name will be etched on the cup.

In the pairs semi-finals holders Rob Bradford & Roger Goodall (White House) were pitted against the Gladiators pair of Kevin Baker & Scott Thompson. The holders chasing a set of 6 breezed past that when Goodall hit 5 and Bradford whipped off the winning dolls with his first two sticks. Second leg an impressive set of 9 by the Glad’s pairs, with Thompson hitting a six, was more than enough to see them level. A set of 8 by Baker & Thompson in the final leg was sufficient to secure the leg and see them through to the final.
The second semi-final, Nigel King & Mark Poulter (Red Lion B Cassington) set 4 in the opening leg against Steve Ward & Pete Rampton (Red Lion B Kidlington).Rampton whipped off all six dolls to give them the first leg. King & Poulter set again in the next leg with 8 which was enough to give them the leg when Ward & Rampton hit 6 in reply.
Final and deciding leg another set by King & Poulter this time with 6 was ample to see them into the final.
