Week 14 Report

Top doll scorer Kevin Baker from The Gladiators A was in superb form again as he clanged off 15 dolls including his fifth six of the season (4-6-5) as they came from behind to beat Garsington Sports club 2-1 on their own patch. Gladiators set 26 in the opening leg and in reply Garsington, with a 3 doll handicap, hit their best score this season with 32 to take an early lead. The Glad’s set and won the second leg 25-22 and then completed the turnaround in the final leg 25-20. Phil Jackson with 13 dolls (6-4-3) was top dog for Garsington.
Jeff Glenister bagged himself a six in his 14 doll haul (6-5-3) for North Leigh FC in their 2-1 home win against Red Lion A Kidlington. Hitting their best score this season North Leigh won the first two legs at a canter 29-25, 27-19, however Lion roared back in the final leg winning it 29-23.
Premier Section leaders The White House had to dig deep to come away from Rose Hill Club B with a 2-1 victory which could easily have gone either way. Setting all three legs White House won the first leg 25-22. They then scrambled over the line in the second leg 23-22 before Rose Hill grabbed a deserved point in the final leg 25-24.
The George A Section One title ambitions took a nose dive when they lost at home to New Club 2-1 who set and won the opening leg 26-10. George set 23 in the second leg which proved to be no problem for The New club who hit 25 in reply to go two up. A set of 25 was enough to give the George a point in the final leg when New Club could only hit 21 in reply. Young Elliot Washington hit his first six of the season for New Club.

SECTION 2
There was a shock when leaders Chequers B crashed to a 3-0 defeat against lowly Gladiators B who hit their best score this season. They comfortably won all three legs 21-14, 26-19, 19-16. Keith Tanner (5-4-3( and Darren Cox (4-5-3) both hit a dozen dolls for The Glad’s while Chris Webb’s baker’s dozen (5-4-4) was the only highlight for the leaders.
Red Lion ‘B’ took full advantage of the leaders slip up and move joint top after their 3-0 at home to The Blackbird. They were set 16 in the first leg and just scrapped over the line with 17 to take an early lead and then went on to take maximum points in the next two legs 23-18, 20-16.
Donnington Club A made it five wins on the bounce when they came away from Queens Head with a 2-1 win. The club men won the first two legs 20-17, 19-13 but could not complete the whitewash losing the final leg 16-13.
Masons Arms A still remain one off the foot of the table despite an all-round performance at Chequers A which saw them win all three legs 18-15, 17-14, 17-12.

SECTION 3
Leaders, Donnington Club D unbeaten record was blown out of the water when they lost 2-1 at Vikings Sports. With Donnington hitting their second lowest score of the season and Vikings hitting their best, the result went to form. Vikings raced into a 2-0 lead winning both legs 18-10, 16-13, but just fell short in the final leg losing it on three sticks after it was tied 18-18.
Second place Bletchington Sports Club are hanging in there waiting for any more slip ups by the leaders, however they couldn’t take full advantage after they dropped a leg at The Cricketers Littleworth (who are now playing the rest of their home games at The New Club). In a very close game where only one doll separated the teams overall, Cricketers won the first leg 18-16. Bletch levelled in the second leg by the smallest of margins 14-13 and completed the comeback in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15.
Rose Hill A won their third game on the trot 2-1 while Donnington Club B lost their third game on the trot. It started of well for Donnington when they won the opening leg 19-11 but Rose Hill hit straight back to win the next two legs 18-12, 16-14.
The bottom two teams The Tandem & Yarnton B.L fought out a close game in which The Tandem scored more dolls but still lost. The opening leg Tandem set 14 and in reply Yarnton only needed three from their last three players to win, however two of the players blobbed out leaving anchor man Nelson Smith to clang off the three dolls needed on his own to scrap by with 15. Tandem upped it a few gears in the next leg hitting an impressive 25 which was more than enough to give them the leg when Yarnton replied with 15. Final and deciding leg a set of 18 by Yarnton saw them through when the Tandem could only hit 14 in response.

SECTION 4
Nerves seems to have got to previous leaders Cricketers Arms who have led the table since week 1, losing their unbeaten record last week they now lost again at home to The Swan C 3-0. In a decent scoring game Swan won the first two legs 20-16, 22-20 with Cricketers falling apart in the last leg 15-8.
Masons Arms B climb up the table is complete as they now lead by two points after they beat Littlemore Rugby Club 3-0. It was tight in the first leg both teams hitting 11with Masons winning it on three sticks. Masons upped their game in the next two legs winning them both 15-8, 20-12.
Duke of Monmouth title challenge is still intact when they beat close rivals The George B 3-0 leg scores 16-14, 18-12, 16-11.
Northway Club B was only able to put out six players but incredibly still managed a maximum win at home to Kidlington FC ‘A’ .Will Cox top scored with 10 dolls (3-3-4) in the leg scores of 14-12, 14-10, 15-10.

SECTION 5
Headington Con Club hit their best score of the season with 50 dolls as they blew away the White Hart 3-0. Paul Sheppard led the way with 10 dolls (3-4-3) as they won all three legs 17-10, 18-6, 15-7.
The only unbeaten record in the league remains with The Six Bells C after they came away from The Original Swan with all three points, 15-11, 15-10, 9-8.
The Catherine Wheel’s dismal form continues when they lost for the sixth time on the bounce, this time at The Golden Ball 2-1, leg scores being 10-5, 13-10, 10-11.
