Week 13 Report

In dreadful weather conditions it was a testament to the commitment of the teams and players to the game that 99% of the games were played.
Gladiators A failed to capitalise on Premier leaders White House not playing when they fell to a 2-1 defeat at The New Club. Gladiators won the opening leg 19-17 and then set 22 in the second leg. In reply New Club only had 10 on the board with three to go, however the tail wagged to hit the 13 required with Mark Washington needing 4, hitting the winning doll with his final stick.
Final leg New club hit their best leg of the season with 27 which was enough to win the leg and game as Gladiators could only hit 21 in reply. James Bennett threw well for his 13 dolls (4-5-4) for the New Club.
North Leigh FC had to come from behind to beat The Swan A 2-1. Setting all three legs Swan won the opening leg 18-15 and then set 16 in the next leg. A change of anchor man by North Leigh brought rewards as Spencer Buckingham whipped off the winning dolls as they snatched the leg by the odd doll with 17. A set of 16 by the Swan in the deciding leg was not enough as North Leigh swept passed that with 22. Dan Reading for the Swan top scored with a dozen dolls (5-4-3).
Section 1 leaders Red Lion B Cassington had a comfortable night at home to Garsington Sports winning all three legs 20-10, 19-12, 18-14. Nigel King bagged himself a six in his 12-doll haul (4-2-6) for The Lion.
The George A still trail in second place after their 2-1 win at home against Rose Hill Club B. They raced into a 2-0 lead winning both legs 26-17, 20-18 but couldn’t complete the maximum win, collapsing in the final leg 22-11.

SECTION 2
leaders Chequers B are three points clear after they whitewashed Masons Arms A 3-0 in the leg scores of 16-12, 20-17, 16-13.
Red Lion B are keeping up the pressure on the leaders after they came away from The Queens Head with all three points. Steve Ward with 11 dolls (4-2-5) led the way as they won all three legs 18-7, 21-18, 20-12.
Despite Ian Sharp hitting a six in his 10-doll haul (2-6-2) Seacourt Bridge remain at the foot of the table when they lost 3-0 at The Gladiators B. Keith Tanner with a dozen dolls (3-5-4) led the way for The Glad’s as they won all three legs 16-10, 20-13, 16-13.
Chequers A came away from The Blackbird with a close fought 2-1 win. Chequers could only set a paltry 9 in the first leg, but somehow that turned out to be enough as Blackbird could only reply with 8. Chasing a set of 12 in the second leg Blackbird redeemed themselves and hit 14 to level the game. Chequers set and won the final and deciding leg 20-16.

SECTION 3
Good consistent throwing by Kidlington FC ‘B’ saw them beat The Cricketers Littleworth 3-0 on their own patch and move into second place in Section 3, 16-13, 16-13, 15-12.
Blecthington Sports climb up the table continues after the defeated Yarnton B.L at home 3-0. It was an easy win as they won all three legs 13-7, 19-12, 17-14.
Vikings Sports made it three wins on the bounce with their latest 3-0 victory at home to Donnington Club B. Vikings won the first leg 12-9 and then when chasing a set of only 5 in the second leg they made hard work of it and scrapped by with 8. Vikings secured the maximum win in the final leg 15-9.
Tandem fall to one of the bottom after they lost at Rose Hill A 2-1. With the game nicely poised at 1-1 Rose Hill won the deciding leg 17-15. Top doll scorer Brian Reidy threw well for his 12 dolls (3-5-4).

SECTION 4
Northway Club B produced the shock of the season in Section 4 when they beat unbeaten leaders Cricketers Arms Cowley 2-1. Chasing a set of 14 in the first leg Northway left anchor man Kevin Vickers needing 4 to win and he was up to the task whipping off the winning doll with his final stick. Northway then went two up when they sneaked the second leg by the odd doll 11-10. Cricketers salvaged some pride winning the last leg 12-8. Andy Lewis was top dog for the leaders with 10 dolls (4-2-4).
Masons Arms B closed the gap to one point when they had a straightforward 3-0 home win against Six Bells B 14-9, 12-9, 19-6. Tony Flett for The Masons hit his best score this season with 10 dolls (3-3-4).
Duke of Monmouth boosted their title ambitions when they demolished Kidlington FC ‘A 3-0 in the leg scores of 10-7, 13-7, 13-9.
The George B title ambitions took a massive hit when they lost 3-0 at Littlemore Rugby Club, however two of the legs were very close. The rugby men won the first leg 13-8 and had to rely on a three sticker in the next leg after it was tied 13-13. Littlemore completed the rout in the final leg by the odd doll 10-9.

SECTION 5
Six Bells C remain unbeaten in Section 5 but they struck lucky at home to Golden Ball and could easily have lost. After setting and winning the first leg 19-12, Bells were then set 16 in the next leg and with two players left to throw they were left needing 7 to win. Phil Hounslow clanged off four dolls and anchor man Nick Edmonds completed the task hitting the three dolls needed to snatch the leg by the smallest of margins with 17. Golden Ball won the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 11-11.
Headington Con club are hanging in there and waiting for any slip ups by the leaders, however they did their cause no good when they dropped a point at home to Red Lion A Cassington. Setting all three legs they won the opener 10-4, lost the next 5-11 and scrapped the final leg 11-10.
