Parent & Child Report

Parent & Child report
Played at The Six Bells Kidlington down to the final, there was some outstanding throwing, and a new name will be going on the cup after holders Kevin & Ashley Stuart (George A) crashed out in the first round to Wally & Wayne Harwood from Bletchington Sports Club. The first leg went to the Stuarts on three sticks after it was tied 6-6. Stuarts then set 6 in the second leg, and it looked like it would be enough to see them though after Wally only hit 1 in reply, however son Wayne saved the day by clanging off a maximum 6 to win the leg by the odd doll. Harwoods won the final and deciding leg chasing a set of 4 they hit 5.
Favourites Steve & Ian McAteer (White House) won their opening game against Zoe & Andy Beal (Gladiators) 2-0 in a close game 5-4, 5-4. In the next round they were drawn against the Harwoods, and the first leg was a humdinger. Harwoods set 5 which the McAteer’s matched. Harwoods then set 3 in the three sticker and in reply Steve & Ian both hit 2 each to snatch the leg. A set of 5 from the McAteer’s was enough to see them through.
In the semi-final they were up against Ollie & Mark Tilling from Seacourt Bridge who had earlier disposed off Marcus & Graham Reading from The Swan 2-1.
The Tilling’s set 5 in the first leg and surprisingly the McAteer’s could only reply with 4 to give the Tilling’s an early lead. Second leg McAteer’s set and won with 5. So, onto the final and deciding leg, the Tilling’s decided to set but could only hit a measly 2. A formality for the McAteer’s or so we thought, Steve went in and only managed to hit 1, son Ian then only needed to hit 2 to win but incredibly he blobbed out to give the Tilling’s an unexpected win and into the final.
Dave & Ben Green from the Chequers will join them in the final. In the first round they beat Steve & Mark Bayliss from The George 2-1 in the leg scores of 6-3, 5-7, 4-3. Second round was a lot tougher against Nigel King & Lizzie Marsh from The Red Lion Cassington, who won the first leg 5-4. The Green’s hit straight back in the next leg setting and winning it 8-2. Final leg King & Marsh set 4. In response Ben hit 2 with Dave hitting the winning three dolls.
In the semi-final against the Blackbird pair Yorkie & Tommy Finney they set and won the first leg with 8. The Finney’s set the second led with 3, in reply Ben struggled and only hit one leaving Dave to whip off the three dolls needed to see them through to the final.
