Week 4 Report

REPORT WEEK 4
It was a case of who roared the loudest, as section one leaders Red Lion Cassington fell to their first defeat of the season when Red Lion Kidlington came from behind to beat them 2-1 in a close encounter. Cassington won the opening leg 22-17 and then set 17 in the second leg. In reply 3 dolls from anchor man Alan Goodgame saw them over the line by the odd doll with 18. Final and deciding leg Cassington set again hitting 18. A great start from Kidlington in response saw them hit 12 at the half was stage, however a couple of blobs left Goodgame needing five to win. Not only did he manage that, Goodgame went one better to hit a maximum six to give them victory with 20. Goodgame top scored with a baker’s dozen (4-3-6).
Premier champions Black Prince were in superb form when they came away from The New Club with a maximum win. Hitting 86 dolls in total they swept away the New Club 29-26, 30-24, 27-23 and moved back to the top of the table. Mick Phipps (5-3-5) and Roger Goodall (5-4-4) were top dogs for the Prince.
Section 1 Rose Hill ‘B’ shocked premier section Swan ‘A’ by beating them on their own patch 3-0. They won all three legs 24-19, 23-21, 20-19, Graham Hambridge (6-5-1) and Gary Coulthard (3-4-5) both hit a dozen dolls for Rose Hill while Lee Thompson’s 13 dolls (4-5-4) were all in vain.
Garsington Sports club are still seeking their first taste of victory as they crashed to a fourth consecutive defeat at The George A 3-0, although the game was much closer than the score suggests. With the sportsmen setting all three legs they lost the opener 17-19 and then set 17 in the next leg. A slow reply left anchor man Kevin Stuart needing 4 to win for the George and he did not disappoint whipping off the winning doll with his final stick. Stuart then repeated the task in the final leg when chasing a set of only 14 to win the leg by the smallest of margins with 15.

In Section 2 Gladiators B Keith Tanner was in fine form clanging off 13 dolls (5-3-5) however it could not prevent the Glad’s from falling to a 2-1 home defeat to the hands of Chequers A 15-18, 11-13, 18-10.
Mark Tilling had a mixed night for Seacourt Bridge in their 3-0 loss at Red Lion B Kidlington. He hit 3 dolls in the first leg and then blobbed out in the next. However, in the final leg he redeemed himself with a maximum 6. Red Lion won all three legs 19-16, 19-10, and the last leg on three sticks after it was tied 18-18.
The Blackbird had a fine 2-1 home win against Donnington Club ‘A’. The first leg had to be decided on one stick in the Blackbirds favour after it was tied 16-16 and again on three sticks. Blackbird then hit a respectable 23 in the second leg in which Donnington could only hit 14 in reply. Donnington won a deserved leg in the final one setting and winning it 18-15.
With David Naylor leading the way with 11 dolls (5-4-2) The Masons A beat Queens Head 2-1. They stormed to a 2-0 lead 22-15, 14-12 before Queens hit back in the final leg 19-15.

Donnington Club D rule the roost in Section 3 and remain unbeaten after they beat Rose Hill A 2-1 in a very close thrilling game. Donnington won the opening leg 18-14 with Rose Hill hitting straight back in the second leg by the tiniest of margins 15-14. The final and deciding leg the roles were reversed with Donnington winning it 15-14 leaving Rose Hill still seeking their first win.
It was a very long night at The Cricketers Littleworth against The Tandem as the first two legs were tied. The first leg was 16-16 with Tandem winning it 11-9 on three sticks. Cricketers won the second leg on three sticks 12-9 after it was tied 17-17. Tandem set the final and deciding leg with 16 and Cricketers were on course to snatch the leg when they left anchor man Bob Shepherd needing two to win, however he blobbed out to give Tandem an unexpected win.
Thirteen blobs between Vikings Sports & Yarnton B.L. meant a low scoring tight game. Vikings opened a lead in the first leg 13-11. Yarnton levelled in the next leg 13-12 before Vikings declared victory in the final leg 14-10.
Kidlington Football club B tasted defeat for the first time this season when they fell to a 3-0 defeat at Donnington B. The opening leg Donnington set and won 20-14. Kidlington set the next leg with 13 and looked on course to level the game when Donnington left anchor man Paul Sims needing four to win, however he was up to the mission and clanged off the four dolls needed to sneak the leg by the odd doll with 14.Donnington completed the whitewash in the final leg narrowly 14-13 again.

Duke Of Monmouth still top Section 4 despite Masons Arms B inflicting their first defeat in a tricky 2-1 win. Damage was all done in the first two legs 13-12, 17-15 however the final leg was tied 17-17. A three stick and one stick shoot out could not separate them before The Duke seized a deserved point when it went back to six sticks.
Cricketers Cowley remain unbeaten when they batted away visitors George B 2-1 but had to do it the hard way after losing the first leg 16-15. They regrouped and threw well to win the next two legs 15-12, 21-15. Johnny Hennigan hit a dozen dolls (4-4-4) for The Cricketers.
Kidlington Football club A swept away Swan ‘C’ in the first two legs winning them both 20-11, 19-16 however Swan fought back to take the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 13-13. Keith Megson for The Swan threw well for his eleven dolls (4-4-3).
Cowley Workers had a disastrous start at Littlemore Rugby club when they could only his 8 in reply to a set of 13 in the first leg. Workers levelled in the second leg 14-10 and then completed the turnaround in the final leg by the smallest of margins 12-11.
Six Bells B are still seeking their first win on the season after they fell to a 2-1 loss at Northway Club B 2-1 in the leg scores of 13-11, 17-14, 12-18.

In Section 5 Six Bells C are throwing well above their norm with another high scoring 3-0 triumph this time at home to Northway Club C 17-7, 16-13, 13-10.
Democrats club, back in the league after a short break are struggling after a fourth consecutive defeat this time at home to Catherine Wheel 9-7, 11-0, 12-5. They keep plugging away and a first win will not be too far away.
Headington Con club top the table after a comfortable 3-0 win at home to The Golden Ball 9-7, 18-9, 17-6.
