Week 2 Report

REPORT WEEK 2
PREMIER/SECTION 1
Despite the very cold weather there was some red-hot throwing, and the pick of the bunch was New Clubs Adrian Shepherd who clanged off an remarkable 16 dolls (5-6-5) as New Club beat local rivals Garsington Sports Club 2-1 in a very close encounter. Garsington set all three legs and lost the first two by a whisker 23-22, 24-22. They grabbed a well-deserved point in the final leg 22-21.
Rob Bradford excelled for The Black Prince with 15 dolls including a maximum six (4-6-5) and was well supported by Roger Goodall with 14 dolls (5-5-4) in an unusual scoring game at home to The Swan A which could have gone either way. Black Prince set a beatable 22 in the opening leg, and some erratic scoring in reply Swan fell two short with 20. Second leg Swan set 26 and looked to be on course to win the leg when The Prince left their last two players needing 11 to win. A six from Bradford and four from anchor man Mick Phipps saw them tie the leg and send it to three sticks. Swan only set 8 but Prince had to rely on Phipps to clang off the winning doll with a chase of 9. A set of 23 in the final leg was enough to give The Prince maximum points when Swan could only muster up a score of 17 in reply.
Kevin Baker was in fine form again when he clanged off a consistent 15 dolls (5-5-5) but it could not stop The Gladiators A falling to a 2-1 home defeat to the hands of Red Lion B Cassington. The Glad’s won the first leg comfortably 24-20, Lion roared back in the second leg to level 25-23. Final and deciding leg Lion set 26 and in reply Gladiators left anchor man Baker needing six to tie but he couldn’t quite repeat last weeks heroics and fell one doll short with five, missing with his 5th stick to give the Lion an unexpected win.
Newcomers to Section 1 Red Lion A Kidlington got their first win under their belts when they beat visitors The George A 2-1. Alan Surman led the way with a baker’s dozen (5-4-4) as they lost the first leg 20-15 but came back well to win the next two 20-17, 19-14.
North Leigh FC kept up their perfect start as they picked up maximum points for the second week running with a 3-0 win at Rose Hill Club B in the leg scores of 20-18, 24-13, 25-20.

SECTION 2
The Chequers A & B played each other and it was the B team that that came out on top thanks to some fine throwing from Graham Morton who hit 14 dolls (5-4-5). With the game nicely poised at 1-1 the A team set 19 in the final and deciding leg. In reply the B team left anchor man Chris Webb needing 5 to win and he did not disappoint clanging off the winning doll with his final stick.
Seacourt Bridge had a disastrous start at home to Queens Head when they could only muster up a reply of 7 to Queens Head set of 13 in the first leg. They rallied well in the second leg to level 16-14 but lost the final leg 13-11.
Steve Walton hit a baker’s dozen (4-5-4) for Donnington Club A as they slayed the Gladiators B 3-0 in the leg scores of 22-10, 22-14, 15-13.
The Blackbird claimed all three legs at The Masons Arms A, winning two of them comfortably 19-13, 18-12 and the middle leg by the odd doll 15-14.

SECTION 3
The Tandem had a good start at Bletchington Sports Club winning the opening leg 19-11, however that was to be their only success as the sports men hit back in the next two legs 19-18, 19-16. Wayne Harwood top scored with 11 dolls (3-5-3) while Brian Reidy after a four-year break hit 11 dolls ( 4-3-4) for the Tandem.
Donnington D were on for maximum points at home to Cricketers Littleworth when they stormed into a 2-0 lead winning both legs 18-14, 15-14 but crashed in the final leg setting only 8 which was no problem for the Cricketers as they batted away that score with 15 in reply.
Consistent throwing by Kidlington FC ‘B’ was what saw them to a 3-0 home win against Vikings sports 14-13, 15-10, 15-12.
Yarnton British Legion had to come from behind to beat visitors Rose Hill club 2-1. Chasing a set of only 9 in the opening leg Legion left anchor man Paul Kilcoyne 2 to win, however he blobbed out to give Rose Hill and early lead. Legion levelled in the next leg 17-10 and in the final and deciding leg Rose Hill set 11. Once again Legion left Kilcoyne needing 2 to win and this time he was up to the task to complete the comeback by whipping off the two dolls needed.

SECTION 4
Early pass setters Duke Of Monmouth made it six points out of six when they defeated Littlemore Rugby Club on their own patch 3-0, They won all three legs 12-10, 14-8, 12-11. David Lammin was top dog for The Rugby men with a dozen dolls (3-4-5).
George B threw well to claim maximum points at home to Kidlington FC ‘A’. The first leg was close 12-10 but The George upped their game and won the next two legs 17-14, 15-6.
The Masons Arms B came away from The Swan C with all three points however the scores were much closer than the result suggests. Masons set and won the first leg 12-11, blew away the Swan in the next 20-13, and concluded the win in the final leg 13-11.
Doug Mingham bagged himself a six in his 11-doll haul for The Cricketers Cowley in their 2-1 win at Six Bells B. In a good competitive game Cricketers won the first leg 17-12, lost the next 13-15 and won the decider 17-14.

SECTION 5
Jack Lane was in tremendous form hitting a dozen dolls (2-5-5) and inspiring Northway Club C to a close 2-1 win over Headington Con Club. The first leg Con club won at a canter 18-10 and then set 15 in the final leg. In reply Northway left anchor man Lane needing all six to win and he almost managed the feat but fell just one short with 5, missing with his last stick. Northway winning the leg on three sticks. Final leg Con club set 14 and this time Lane was left 4 to win and he went one better hitting another 5 to give Northway a close exciting win.
Only one doll in total separated The White Hart & Golden Ball with visitors Golden Ball claiming the win. They took and early lead winning the first leg 9-6 but lost the next 4-2. Final leg went to the Golden Ball from a three stick shoot out after it was tied 7-7.
Six Bells C are throwing well above expectations and had a straightforward 3-0 win at Catherine Wheel 18-6, 18-14, 14-7.
Democrats Club are still searching for their first points when they fell to a 3-0 loss at Red Lion A Cassington in the leg scores of 13-7, 12-2, 11-5.
