Week 2 Report

REPORT WEEK 2
Chris Jenkins was in spectacular form as he clanged off sixteen dolls (5-6-5) for The Gladiators A in their 2-1 victory away at The Sawn ‘B’ . In a high scoring game which produced 165 dolls, two sixes and nine fives, Swan could only set the opening leg with 22 but in reply Gladiators struggled and left anchor man Kevin Giles needing three to win which he achieved with his last stick. Gladiators set the next leg with a whopping 32 and after a steady reply The Swan still needed twenty from their last four men. They gave it a good go and hit eighteen but fell two short with 30. Final leg Swan banged in a set of 33 which was enough to earn them a point as the Glad’s hit 28 in reply. John Horton hit a baker’s dozen for The Glad’s (4-5-4) while Jason Coates (3-5-6) and Daryal Simpson (3-5-5) starred for The Swan.
The Three Pigeons came away from The Woodman with a hard fought 2-1 win. Woodman won the opening leg 24-20 however The Pigeons responded well in the next leg to level 25-21. Bells could only set 22 in the final leg but it was enough to see them through as Chequers struggled and could only hit 20 in reply. Ray Townsend was top dog for The Bells with thirteen dolls (3-5-5).

In Section 2 The Bullnose ‘A’ Jonny McMahon was the only one to hit double figures in their clash away at Florence Park ‘A’. His fourteen dolls (3-6-5) helped the Bullnose to a maximum 3-0 win in the leg scores of 19-14, 25-14, 18-17.
There was a mixture of scoring between Gladiators ‘B’ and Red Lion ‘A’ Yarnton. The Glad’s won the first leg 26-23 and then set 27 in the second leg. Red Lion responded well to whack in a chase of 30 to level the game. Chris Webb was in tip top form for The Gladiators with fourteen dolls (4-5-5),
It was a case of unlucky thirteen for Tiddington Cricket clubs Pete Shepherd as he clanged off a baker’s dozen (4-5-4) but it was to no avail has they lost at The Queens Head B 2-1. Queens won the first leg 21-19 but lost the next by the odd doll 17-18. Deciding leg Queens set and won 21-19.

In Section 3 Masons A got off to the perfect start at The Six Bells B Kidlington by winning the opening leg 17-15. However that was to be their only success as The Bells fought back well to win the next leg by the odd doll 18-17 thanks to anchor man Seamus O’Malley who clanged off the four dolls needed to snatch the leg. Bells wrapped up victory in the final leg 21-16.
Donnington Club ‘C’ set all three legs in their home clash against Littlemore British Legion A. The first leg they won 21-19 and then set 18 in the next leg. Legion replied well hitting 20 to level the game. The deciding leg went to Donnington 20-16.

Some steady team throwing form Vikings Sports B saw them take maximum points at home to Ampleforth Arms B in Section 4. Scores of 18-19-19 saw them though against replies of 11-15-10.
The George B though they were on for all three points against New Club when they won the first two legs easily 17-14, 19-11 and then set 18 in the final leg. However New Club improved all the way through the team to hit 22 and take the leg.

One bad leg cost Masons Arms all three points at home to Florence Park B in Section 5. They won the first and third legs 19-14, 20-11 but sandwiched in between was a poor leg of 11 when chasing only a set of 13.
Red Lion B Yarnton sneaked the first two legs at home to Northway Club C 14-13, 15-13 but the final leg was never in doubt as they hit an impressive 24 to Northway’s 12.

In Section 6 Steve Tooke with thirteen dolls (5-5-3) led the way as Catherine Wheel B came away from Littlemore British Legion B with a 21- win in the leg scores of 17-13, 19-13, 15-17.
Anchor man Glyn Millard came to Vikings Sports D rescue in the first two legs against Prince Of Wales. Chasing every leg Millard hit the dolls needed to take it to three sticks in the opening leg which Vikings won. The second leg Millard hit the one doll required to snatch the leg by the odd doll 14-13 but was not needed in the final leg as they took that with ease 19-13.

In Section 7 Marston British Legion B scored more dolls than their hots Bletchingdon Sports Club but still managed to lose the game. The sports Club won the opening leg by the smallest of margins 15-14 and the second leg was tied 15-15 with the Bletchingdon winning it on three sticks.
