REPORT FROM WEDNESDAY 7th MAY
Kevin Giles with fifteen dolls (5-4-6) and Neil Lyon with thirteen (3-5-5) ensured The Three Pigeons to maximum points away at Rose Hill Club ‘A’. They won the opening leg 25-22 and then went on to take the next two legs 32-19, 28-17.
In Section 2 Rob Bradford bagged himself a six in his fifteen doll haul (6-5-4) to lead the Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ to a 2-1 home victory against The Chequers ‘A’. They won the first leg 22-19, with The Chequers leveling in the next leg 25-22. The final and deciding leg Chequers set with 22 which proved to be not enough as The Ampleforth replied with 24 to take the leg and match. Jimmy Light was top dog for The Chequers with fourteen dolls (5-5-4).
Darren Cox was in sparkling form for Team Monarch as he clanged off fifteen dolls (5-5-5) but it could not prevent them from a 2-1 defeat away at The Red Lion Kidlington. With the game nicely poised at a leg each Red Lion won the final leg 22-20 with anchor man Lee Anderson hitting the winning doll.
Veteran Binny Casey knocked of a maximum six in hit ten doll total for The Three Horseshoes ‘A’ as they came from behind to beat Vikings Sports ‘B’ 2-1 in the leg scores of 12-19, 21-18, 24-21.
In Section 3 Crown Chalgrove won the opening leg away at Tiddington Cricket Club on three sticks after it was tied 19-19, however that was to be their only success as the Cricket men came back strongly to win the next two legs 22-16, 19-15 with Dick Brownsill top scoring with a dozen dolls 4-5-3.
Newly promoted Ampleforth Arms ‘C’ came away from Kennington Club with a comfortable 3-0 victory. Chris Webb with a dozen dolls (5-3-4) led the way as they won all three legs 19-12, 16-9, 21-14
Only one doll separated North Oxford Con Club and New Club ‘B’ in Section 5. The first leg was tied 15-15 with New Club winning it on three sticks. The second leg was also tied 14-14 and this time Con Club won it on three sticks. New Club set the final leg with 18 and in reply Con Club’s anchor man Mick Richardson was left four to win the leg, and he did not disappoint has he whipped off the four needed to win the leg and match.
Seacourt Bridge lost the opening leg to Red Lion Yarnton by the odd doll 21-20 in Section 6 but came back well to win the next two legs 18-15, 25-15. Seacourt’s Danny Brown hit a dozen dolls (2-5-5).
In Section 7 Selby Smith hit a rare six in hit ten doll haul (3-6-1) but it could not prevent The Catherine Wheel ‘A’ losing at Northway Club in a close contest. Northway won the first leg 14-12, with The Catherine Wheel leveling in the next leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15. Northway won the deciding leg 12-10.
A good team performance from Gladiators ‘B’ saw them take maximum points at home to Littlemore British Legion in Section 8.They won all three legs 13-11, 19-9, 15-7.
