REPORT FROM MATCHES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 28th AUGUST
Gladiators ‘A’ clinched the Section One title with one game to spare as they beat The Red Lion ‘B’ Eynsham 3-0. A nervous start saw them win the opening leg on one stick after they tied 24-24 and then 11-11 on three sticks. After that they comfortably won the next two legs 25-20, 28-20. John Allnutt led the way with thirteen dolls 4-4-5. Mark Revill was top dog for The Red Lion with a dozen dolls (4-3-5).
Phil Adams was in top form for The Premier Champions The Cricketers ‘B’ as he bagged himself a six in his sixteen doll haul (6-5-5) in their 3-0 win over Garsington Sports ‘A’. He was well supported by team mate Francis Hillier who banged off fourteen dolls (5-4-5) as they won all three legs 29-26, 29-28, 26-21. Ken Maunder threw well for Garsington with a bakers dozen (4-4-5).
Alan Goodgame hit a steady fifteen dolls (5-5-5) for Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington as they came away from The New Club ‘A’ with all three points. They won the first leg 33-23 and then were set 25 in the next leg. In reply Six Bells left anchor man Goodgame five to win and he did not disappoint as he clanged of the winning doll with his last stick. Bells secured maximum points in the final leg 29-24.
Top throwing from Kevin Giles (6-5-4) and Pete Dempsey (5-5-5) who hit fifteen dolls each saw The Three Pigeons to 2-1 win at The Vikings Sports ‘B’. Neil Lyon chipped in with fourteen dolls (6-3-5) as they won the first two legs 32-29, 28-23 but lost the last leg 27-23. Alan Davies threw well for The Vikings with a dozen dolls (3-5-4).

Shamus Hannon hit his best score of the season with thirteen dolls (4-4-5) for Cowley Workers in Section 2 but they still lost 2-1 at The Bullnose Morris ‘A’ for whom Dave Simms hit a dozen dolls (4-3-5) in the leg scores of 20-18, 18-23, 22-14.
Black Prince ‘B’ had a comfortable win at The Woodman winning all three legs 19-17, 25-15, 22-19 thanks to lead of man Ray Townsend who clanged off thirteen dolls (4-5-4).

Red Lion ‘B’ Yarnton claimed the Section 3 title with a 2-1 home win over The King & Queen ‘A’. Needing just one point to be crowned champions they won the first two legs 18-15, 25-17, with King & Queen grabbing a point in the final leg 18-16.

It’s still very tight at the top of Section 4 as the leaders The Original Swan dropped a point at home to The New Club ‘B’. They won the first two legs 18-17, 16-13 but could not claim maximum points in the final leg losing it on three sticks after it was tied 18-18. The Crown Charlton on Otmoor stays one point behind after they also dropped a point in a very close game away at Garsington Sports ‘B’. Crown went one nil up in the opening leg 19-8, but lost the next leg on three sticks after it was tied 16-16. The final and deciding leg was also tied 14-14 but this time The Crown won the leg on three sticks to set up an exciting last week of games.
Martin Giles clanged off a dozen dolls (4-3-5) for The Six Bells ‘B’ Quarry in their 3-0 win at home to Vikings Sports ‘A’. They won all three legs 18-14, 16-9, 23-16.

In Section 5 The Fairview Inn ‘A’ scored more dolls than their hosts King & Queen ‘B’ (48-41) but still lost out 2-1. The first two legs went to King & Queen 16-14, 16-15 with The Fairview winning the final leg 14-9.
North Oxford Con Club ‘A’ beat champions Vikings ‘C’ 2-1 thanks to some fine throwing from Mick Rowe with thirteen dolls (4-4-5) and Mick Richardson who hit a six in his dozen dolls (6-3-3). They won the opening leg 22-18, lost the next 15-20 but won the final leg 15-14.

Donnington Club ‘C’ still lead Section 6 after they came away from The Chequers ‘B’ with all three points in the leg scores of 17-12, 12-11, 19-9. Red Lion ‘A’ Kidlington are only two points behind after their maximum win away at Kidlington Sports Club ‘A’. Winning all three legs 18-10, 15-11, 20-10 sets up an exciting clash tonight as they play each other in the final game.
Tony Eeles whipped off a six for The George ‘A’ but they still lost to Red Lion ‘C’ Eynsham 2-1 for whom Mark Collins hit eleven dolls (4-4-3) in a close game. Red Lion won the first leg 15-13 and then the next leg on three sticks after it was tied 19-19. George grabbed a point in the final leg by the odd doll 22-21.

Brill Sports Club ‘B’ claimed the Section 8 title after beating close rivals The Bullnose Morris ‘B’ 3-0. They won all three legs 19-13, 14-11, 13-12.
In Section 9 Michael Finney hit a rare six in his dozen dolls (3-6-3) for The Blackbird as they beat section winners North Oxford Con Club ‘B’ 3-0. They won the opening leg on three sticks after it was tied 15-15 and then easily won the next two legs 21-15, 19-12.
The Kite won the opening leg 10-9 in their clash against Kings Arms Kidlington but that was to be their only victory as Kings Arms came back well to win the next two legs 16-8, 17-12 to secure the runners up spot.
Red Lion ‘B’ Cassington gave themselves hope for the Section 10 title after beating leaders Kennington Club ‘B’ 2-1. They went into a 2-0 lead winning the legs 11-6, 12-10 but couldn’t make it maximum points as Kennington won the final leg 16-11.
In a high scoring game Cricketers Littleworth beat The Bystander 3-0 but the game was much closer than the score suggests. They won the opening leg 11-8 and then the second leg 16-14. The final leg Bystander set with 16 however The Cricketers was up to the task and hit 18 to take the leg. Emma Foster hit ten dolls (3-4-3) for The Cricketers while Howard Mansell also hit ten dolls (2-5-3) for The Bystander.

**Could all teams please return any cups they hold to Keith Alder ASAP. All final result cards must be in by Monday 9th September and NO games may be played after the 4th September. Any that are will be void.**
