Report Week 12


Green Road Club Kidlington dented The Three Horseshoes title ambitions with a three nil win at home in Section 3. Dave Britnell led the way with fourteen dolls (4-4-6) as they won the first two legs 18-13, 20-18, and the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 16-16. Phil Jackson bagged himself a six in his dozen dolls for The Three Horseshoes.
Kevin Stuart was in top form for Rose Hill Club ‘B’ as he clanged off fourteen dolls (5-5-4) in their 3-0 win over Masons ‘A’. Rose Hill comfortably won all three legs 17-11, 16-15, 15-12.
Original Swan A’ move into second spot with a 3-0 victory over basement boys Cowley Con Club. Craig Greenough starred with a dozen dolls (4-2-5) in the leg scores of 21-17, 19-14, 21-14.

The Gladiators ‘A’ broke their duck and finally won a game as they beat The Six Bells ‘C’ in the Premier/ Section 1. Chris Jenkins led the way with thirteen dolls (4-5-4) as they won the opening leg 25-23. The next leg was tied 26-26 with The Bells winning it on three sticks. Gladiators clinched victory in the final leg 33-27. Roger Goodall was top dog for the Bells with fourteen dolls (4-4-6).
Tommy Recht (4-4-5) and Ken Maunder both hit a bakers dozen for Garsington Sports ‘A’ but it could not prevent them going down 2-1 to The Three Pigeons. Neil Lyon also hit thirteen dolls (3-4-6) for The Pigeons as they won the opening leg on three sticks after it was tied 23-23. They then won the next leg by the odd doll 27-26 with the Sportsmen grabbing a point in the final leg 33-29.

In Section 2 second placed Vikings Sports ‘B’ beat lowly Red Lion Yarnton 3-0 but the game was much closer than the score suggests. Vikings easily won the opening leg 23-11 but had to rely on three sticks shootouts in the next two legs after they were tied 20-20, 23-23. Allan Davies threw a steady 4-4-4 for The Vikings.
Basement boys The Black Prince hit a massive 29 in their middle leg at home to The Chequers ‘A’ as they notched up their second win of the season 2-1. They won the first two legs 19-11, 29-24 but lost the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 19-19. Alan Holt (3-5-5) for The Black Prince and Steve Tooke (4-5-5) for The Chequers both hit thirteen dolls.

The top two clashed in Section Four with second placed Kennington Club ‘A’ beating leaders Seacourt Bridge 2-1. Opening leg went to Seacourt 18-16 but Kennington replied well in the next two legs 23-18, 19-11 to secure them a tense victory. Danny Brown for The Seacourt top scored with a bakers dozen (4-5-4).

In Section 8 Catherine Wheel scored more dolls then their opponents Red Lion ‘B’ Cassington (40-38) but still ended up on the wrong side of a 2-1 score. They just lost the first leg by the odd doll 11-10 but upped their game in the next leg taking it 17-15. The final and deciding leg was tied 13-13 with The Red Lion winning it on three sticks. Selby Smith with ten dolls (1-5-4) for The Catherine Wheel was top scorer.

Section 9 leaders The Crown Chalgrove continue their surge to the title with a 2-1 win at The Jolly Postboys. Crown went into an early lead winning the first leg 21-12 but Postboys came back well to level in the next leg 19-16. Crown made sure of victory in the final leg 21-12 for whom Peter Sellar threw well for his dozen dolls (4-5-3).

In Section 10 The Cricketers Littleworth could only muster up four dolls in their opening leg against Original Swan ‘D’, but the next leg they smashed off 21 dolls to level the game. They then went on to win the final leg 14-7.

It was a long night in the Section 11 clash between Red Lion ‘C’ Kidlington and The Holly Bush as the first two legs went to three sticks after they were both drawn 5-5, 8-8 which Red Lion won them both. They then made sure of maximum points in the final leg 11-6. Scott Venny with eight dolls was top dog for The Lion.
