Report 13th July

Dan Brown from The Seacourt Bridge in Section 4 was another player this season missing out on a maximum eighteen dolls when he clanged off twelve out of twelve with his first two throws but then followed it up with a three. Team Mate Mick Beane also hit a six in his eleven dolls as they took all three legs away at The Cricketers Littleworth 24-13, 21-17, 22-15.
The Vikings ‘B’ continue their surge up the table with another 3-0 win this time at home to Garsington Sports ‘B’. Alan Davies (2-3-6) and Ian Bowler (3-4-4) led the way. They won the first two legs 22-19, 22-15 and then banged in a set of 29 in the final leg which was more than enough to give them maximum points as the Sports men replied with 20.

In the Premier / Section One John Weller from The George was another double sixer as he clanged off fourteen dolls 6-6-2 in their 3-0 win at home to The New Club ‘A’. Steve Walton chipped in with thirteen dolls (5-4-4) as they won the first two legs 33-22, 29-26 and the last leg on three sticks after it was tied 29-29.
Den Sellar was in scintillating form as bagged himself a six in his sixteen doll haul (5-5-6) for The Cricketers B as they claimed maximum points at home to The White Hart ‘A’. Ivor Clarke also threw well with fifteen dolls (5-5-5) in the leg scores of 28-22, 29-25, 30-26.

In Section 2 Tony Barrett from The Six Bells Quarry was in top form with fourteen dolls (4-6-4) as they had to come from behind to beat The Chequers ‘A’ 2-1. Chequers won the opening leg 24-21 but The Six Bells came back well to win the next two legs 26-21, 15-10.
It was unlucky thirteen for Keith Quinell from Kidlington Sports Club B as crashed away at The Squire Bassett 3-0. Quinell hit a maximum six in hit total (6-4-3) but it was not enough as they lost all three legs 22-19, 22-21, 20-15. Paul Holt and Ray Townsend both hit thirteen (4-5-4) for The Squire Bassett.

Tem Monarch still rule the roost in Section 3 after their 3-0 win over Chequers C. Monarch got of to a flyer in the opening leg with a set of 27 which proved to strong for The Chequers who replied with 20. Chequers then set the next leg with 19 but Monarch matched it thanks to anchor man Darren Cox who hit the three dolls needed to tie the leg. Monarch won it on three sticks and then took maximum points in the final leg 22-18. Keith Bull top scored with a dozen dolls 5-4-3.

Dave Fry hit his first maximum of the season for The Chandos Arms ‘B’ in Section 5 in their 2-1 win at home to The Nelson B. They comfortably won the opening two legs 25-19, 18-12 but Nelson replied well in the final leg winning it 20-18. Ray Hambridge was top dog for The Nelson with eleven dolls (4-3-4).

Section Six basement boys The Catherine Wheel A gave promotion chasers Littlemore Rugby Club a scare by taking the opening leg 16-14. The Rugby men composed themselves in the next leg and stormed back to take it 25-19 and finished the job of in the final leg 20-13. Bob Felix clanged off a six for The Catherine Wheel, while Dean Giles and Pete Smith for The Rugby men almost claimed their first sixes but both missed with their last stick.

The Black Bull scored more dolls than their opponents Gladiators ‘B’ but still ended up losing 2-1. The Gladiators set the first leg with fifteen; however Black Bull tied the leg thanks to anchor man Lee Anderson who hit the three dolls needed. The Glad’s won the leg on three sticks. Black Bull levelled in the next leg 24-15 and then set eighteen in the final and deciding leg. Gladiators replied well and left anchor man John Green needing only two to win the leg which he done with ease whipping off four dolls.

In Section 7 Red Lion Wolvercote just got the better over Kidlington Sports Club ‘A’ in a very close game. Red Lion won the opening leg 21-16 and then set 13 in the second leg. After a poor reply anchor man Barry Mudd was left needing five to win and he almost pulled it off but fell one short with four which tied the leg. The Sports men won the leg on three sticks. The final leg was also tied 16-16 with Mudd clanging off a six to give him a total haul of thirteen dolls, but Kidlington got revenge this time and won the leg on three sticks to grab a point.
Bottom club Brill Club ‘B’ was unlucky to win only a point against The Masons Arms as they lost the first two legs by the odd doll 16-17, 14-15 but won the final leg 16-10.

Dan Rawlings hit a six for The Priory as they beat Cowley Con Club 3-0 to remain top of section 9 while Florence Park Club move up to second spot with a 2-1 win at The Fairview Inn B.
