FINALS NIGHT REPORT

Neil Lyon from The Three Pigeons successfully retained the Oxford Singles trophy against Kevin Giles from The George Littlemore at a packed hall at Rover Sports Club. Lyon set the first leg with a respectable four. Giles responded well getting two early sticks but then lost his range as the next couple of sticks fell just short and he ended up one shy with a reply of 3. Giles then set the next leg but could only muster a target of 3. Lyon went for it from the off hitting the doll with his first two sticks, but missed with his next two and came back well hitting the doll with his next two sticks to give him a 2-0 victory.
Alan Holt and Paul Holt from The Dogwood won The Parent & Child Cup with a close win against Philip & Bryan Adams from The Cricketers. The Holt’s won the opening leg on three sticks after the leg was tied 5-5. The Adam’s responded well in the next leg with a set of 7 (P.Adams hitting the first six of the night). Holt’s replied with 4. The final and deciding leg also went to 3 sticks after the leg was tied 7-7. Once again The Holt’s took the leg and match on three sticks.

The first leg was tied 1-1 with Gillett winning the leg on three sticks. Millard levelled in the next leg 4-2. The Cricketers beat The Six Bells Kidlington in the Greene King Cup 2-0. Six Bells set 23 in the opening leg which The Cricketers passed with ease with two players spare and then set 32 in the next leg. Six Bells responded well 13 from their first three players including a six from Steve Horn and was well on their way. A one then followed but a five from Dick Walsh and four from Ady Cross put them back in with a shout. Needing eight to win from the last two players they could only muster up three between them to give The Cricketers the win. Jon Townsend played well for The Cricketers with two fives.
Keith Bull and Darren Cox from Team Monarch won the Lower Pairs 2-0 against Dave Soanes and Antony Hayes from Jolly Postboys.
New names go on The Oxford Pairs Trophy as Pete Rampton and Steve Ward from Six Bells beat The Cricketer’s pairing of Phil Wilkins and Jon Townsend. Cricketers set both legs with 5 and each leg Rampton started with a two and Ward won both legs with a score of four in each leg.
The Monty Greenaway Fours produced some good throwing as The Cricketer’s ‘A’ team just got the better of the ‘B’ team 2-1. The ‘a’ team lost the opening leg 16-17 and was set 16 in the next leg. Anchor man Sellar came to the ‘A’ teams rescue clanging off the five dolls needed to level the match. The ‘B’ side set 11 in the deciding leg and again Sellar knocked of the winning doll to give them victory.
The Plough won The Jim Whitbread Cup 2-1 against Red Lion Brill. They had to do it the hard way after they lost the opening leg 14-18. Plough levelled in the next leg 21-18 and won the final leg with two players to spare 17-16.
