3rd June Report

Viking Sports gained their first win in the top flight with a 2-1 home win against Kidlington Sports. Vikings won the opening leg 17-15 but Kidlington responded well to level in the second leg 22-14. Kidlington set the deciding leg with 20 and after a slow start Vikings left anchor man Robin Charlton 5 to win. After missing his first stick Charlton then whipped off the next five to win the leg by the odd doll.

In Section 2 The Chequers Chris Simmons clanged off 14 dolls 3-5-6 to inspire them to a 3-0 victory over The White Hart. Chequers just won the first leg 23-22, won the next 22-17 and claimed maximum points in the final leg 22-20.
Nathan O’Donnell bagged himself 14 dolls 4-5-5 and Gavin Stubbs 11 dolls 6-2-3 as The Dogwood had a good win at home to The Cricketers Littleworth taking all three legs 25-21, 24-23, 25-15.

Tony Stallard hit his first ever six as The Red Lion Eynsham beat Highfield Club 2-1 in Section 3. Stallard could only follow up his six with a 1 & 2 but it was just enough as they won the first leg 17-13, lost the second 14-18 and won the final leg on three sticks after tying 20-20.
Keith Vickers was top dog for Highfield with 11 dolls 2-5-4.

In Section 4 it was not unlucky 13 for Fairview’s Colin Blunt as he smashed off a bakers dozen 6-3-4 in their 2-1 win at home to Red Lion Garsington. The opening leg was won by Fairview on a three stick shoot out after both teams hit 19. Fairview doubled their points in the second leg 18-11 but lost out on three sticks in the final leg after tying 17-17.

There was a marathon in Section 5 between Viking Sports ‘C’ and Kidlington Sports ‘A’ as all three legs went to three sticks. Vikings won the first two legs after both teams drew 13-13, 17-17. Kidlington Sports grabbed the final leg after tying 14-14.
Golden Ball ‘B’ scored one more doll then The Bull but still lost 2-1. They started of well winning the first leg 18-16. Bull levelled in the next leg 15-14 and went on to win the game in the final leg on three sticks after both teams hi 15 apiece.

In Section 6 Brill Social Clubs Lee Mason 13 (5-3-5), Martyn Kitson 12 (4-4-4) and Ian Houghton 11 (4-2-5) all threw well but it was to no avail as they lost away at Team Monarch 2-1. Monarch had the game sewn up early on grabbing the first two legs 25-23, 20-19. Brill Club came back well to gain a point in the final leg 27-16.

With the game nicely poised at 1-1 between Unicorn Inn & Highfield Club ‘B’ in Section 7, Unicorn set a decent 14 in the deciding leg. Highfield replied well leaving anchor man to whip off four dolls to tie the leg. A three stick shoot out could not separate them and it had to go to one stick for Highfield to claim victory.

In Section 10 Nut Tree and Red Lion Cassington both hit 28 dolls but it was The Nut Tree that saw a win go against their name. They just scrapped though the first leg 9-8 and the second 8-5. Lion roared back to take a point in the last leg 15-11.

Catherine Wheel beat Kings Arms ‘A’ Kidlington 3-0 in Section 11 but it was much closer than the scoreline suggests. The opening and final legs were tied 9-9 with Catherine Wheel winning them both on three sticks and winning the middle leg 12-11.
