Week 3

REPORT FROM GAMES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 13TH MAY

Six Bells ‘C’ Kidlington smashed off 97 dolls in their 3-0 win at Garsington Sports. They won the opening leg 33-26 in which four sixes were hit. Another six was hit in the second leg which they won 35-23 and then rounded off a good night in the final leg 29-26. Steve Ward was in inspiring form with sixteen dolls (6-5-5) and was well supported by Andy Beal (6-4-3) and Jon Townsend (6-5-2) both hitting thirteen dolls.
Jeff Glenister bagged himself a six in his sixteen doll haul as The Woodman came away from The Black Prince ‘A’ with a 2-1 win. They won the first two legs 23-20, 22-17 with The Prince hitting back well in the final winning it 31-26 for whom Phil Austin and Simon Sommerscales clanged off a six apiece.
Tony Bradford was in fine form as he whipped off fifteen dolls (4-6-5) to guide New Club ‘A’ to a 3-0 win at home to Black Prince ‘B’. Ronnie Wade chipped in with thirteen dolls (3-5-5) as they won all three legs 28-21, 31-15, 29-17. Neil Lyon was top dog for The Prince with thirteen dolls (5-5-3).
It was unlucky thirteen for Ampleforth’s ‘A’ Rob Bradford as he hit 5-4-4 but could not prevent them going down 3-0 to Yarnton British Legion 26-25, 26-21, 25-23.

In Section 2 Graham Hambridge was the star for The Bullnose ‘A’ with fourteen dolls (5-5-4) as they came away from Red Lion ‘A’ Kidlington with a 2-1 victory. They won the opening leg 23-19, with Red Lion levelling in the next leg 25-23. The final and deciding leg Bullnose set and won 24-12.
Rose Hill ‘A’ scored more dolls than their hosts Six Bells ‘A’ Quarry (68-65) but still lost out 2-1. Six Bells won the first leg 22-19 with Rose Hill winning the second leg 26-20. The last leg was tied 23-23 with The Bells winning it on three sticks.

In Section 3 Masons Arms ‘B’ beat Chequers ‘A’ 3-0 but the game was much closer than the score suggests. The first leg Masons won on three sticks after it was tied 17-17 and they then went on to set the next leg with 18. Chequers were on course to win the leg needing only four from their last two players, however they both blobbed out to give the Masons a 2-0 lead. Masons completed the win in the final leg 17-13.

The George lead Section 4 with their third win out of three beating The Pheasant Inn 3-0 who still are looking for their first win. They won all three legs 14-11, 16-15, 18-15. Ian Sharp threw well for The Pheasant with ten dolls (3-2-5).

In Section 6 only one doll separated The Three Horseshoes and Prince Of Wales. The opening leg went to The Horseshoes 17-11, with The POW setting the next leg with 18. In reply anchor man Jon Dunhill came to the Horseshoes rescue whipping off the five dolls needed to tie the leg. However his heroics was in vain as they lost the three stick shoot out. The deciding leg Prince set and won it 22-17.
King and Queen outscored their visitor’s Seacourt Bridge 55-51 but still ended up losing 2-1. They won the first leg 22-14 thanks to a six from Derek Adams, but Seacourt levelled in the second leg 16-13. Seacourt then set the final leg with 21 which was just enough as King & Queens anchor man Nigel Bower needing five to tie fell just one short to give Seacourt victory.

The Section 7 local derby between hosts The Bullnose ‘B’ and The Blackbird saw the visitors fly away with a 2-1 win in the leg scores of 19-10, 16-10, 15-17.
Dave Edmonds hit eleven dolls (3-3-5) for Red Lion ‘B’ Marston but it was all in vain as they lost out to visitors Northway Club ‘A’ 2-1. Leg scores 14-20, 17-14, 12-13.

In Section 8 Red Lion ‘B’ Kidlington beat Pheasant Inn ‘B’ 3-0 however the result did not reflect how close the game was. Red lion won the opening leg 16-13 and the second by the odd doll 17-16. The final leg was tied 15-15 with the Lion winning it on three sticks.
