Week 6

REPORT FROM GAMES PLAYED ON WEDNESDAY 4th JUNE
The top two teams clashed in the Premier Section and it was visitors The Six Bells’ C’ who came out on top 2-1 at The Three Pigeons in a high scoring game that saw six sixes hit. Pigeons set the opening leg with 26 ,however The Six Bells flew past that with a massive score of 35. The second leg was tied 25-25 with The Bells winning it on three sticks with a set of 18. Pigeons won the final leg 33-31. Steve Ward for The Bells top scored with sixteen dolls 5-6-5 while team mates Dick Walsh, Robin Busby and Phil Austin all hit a maximum six. Kevin Giles and Neil Lyon were the six hitters for The Three Pigeons.
Barry Ruffels was in top form for Garsington Sports ‘A’ with fifteen dolls (6-5-4) as they took maximum points at home to Red Lion ‘A’ Eynsham 3-0 but the scores were much closer then the result states. The first two legs were tied 25-25, 25-25 with the sports men winning them both on three sticks, before they won the final leg 28-23.
Yarnton British Legion top Section One after a 3-0 drubbing over The Cricketers ‘B’. Henry Johnson led the way with fourteen dolls (6-4-4) as they secured all three legs 33-23, 29-20, 27-17.

The Six Bells Quarry remain unbeaten in Section 2 after beating their closest rivals The Ampleforth Arms ‘A’ 2-1. They won the first two legs 18-16, 21-18 with Ampleforth grabbing a point in the final leg 25-16.
Lee Anderton was in cracking form for The Red Lion Kidlington as he bagged himself a six in his fifteen doll haul (5-6-4) in their 2-1 win at home to The Woodman. Lion won the opening leg by the odd doll 18-17 with The Woodman coming back well in the next leg 25-22. Lion winning the final and deciding leg 22-20.
It was unlucky thirteen for Dave Bowler as he hit a six in his thirteen dolls (6-4-3) but could not prevent his team Vikings Sports ‘B’ losing at Team Monarch 3-0, 22-20, 16-15, 23-13.
After forty years of playing the game The Griffin’s Ray Peachey announced his retirement with a final hit of a blob in a total of two (1-1-X) as they lost away at The Chequers ‘A’. Griffin lost the first two legs 17-18, 16-18 but won a point in the final leg on three sticks after it was tied 14-14.

In Section 3 The Bullnose Morris ‘A’ came away from The Ampleforth Arms ‘C’ with a close fought victory. Bullnose were chasing a set of 18 in the opening leg and left anchor man Willy Waite needing a full house to win the leg and he almost carried it out falling one short with his final stick. However they won the leg on three sticks with Waite hitting all three to win the leg. Bullnose then won the next leg 16-12. Ampleforth responded well in the final leg winning it 25-20.
Don Armstrong hit a bakers dozen (3-6-4) for The Crown Chalgrove as they came away from The Chequers ‘B’ with all three points in the leg scores of 17-11, 18-12, 15-13.

Vikings Sports ‘C’ head Section 4 after a close fought battle at home to Green Road Club. They snatched the opening leg by one doll 18-17 but comfortably won the next 18-13. Final leg was tied 12-12 with Vikings claiming maximum points on three sticks.
Only one doll separated The Queens Head (44) & Original Swan ‘A’ (45) but three steady scores of 15 from The Swan to the Queen’s 12-14-18 gave them a 2-1 victory.

In Section 5 Brill Sports Club ‘A’ scored more dolls then their hosts Cricketers ‘A’ but still lost out 2-1. They set 17 in the first leg but Cricketers anchor man Gareth Williams whipped off the four dolls needed to take the leg by the odd doll. Cricketers won the next leg 14-12 with Brill winning the final leg 19-12. Steve Christy top scored with a dozen dolls (4-3-5)

In Section 6 there were a couple of firsts for The King & Queen in their 3-0 victory over Red Lion Yarnton. Paul Jakeman managed to hit double figures with 11 dolls (3-4-4) and Mick Westell failed to trouble the doll all night to end up in the Blobbers section. They won all three legs 14-13, 22-15, 14-13.

Gladiators ‘B’ crashed to their first defeat of the season in Section 8 at home to Chequers ‘C’ 2-1 in a very close game. Chequers won the first two legs by the odd doll 15-14, 14-13 with The Glad’s winning the final leg 20-17. Keith Tanner was top dog for The Glad’s with ten dolls.

The Pheasant ‘B’ threw well for a section 10 team hitting 44 dolls in total as they beat Headington Con Club 3-0 in the leg scores of 18-6, 16-11, 10-6.
